In October 2023, we designed our intervention program to assist few vulnerable populations struggling to pay their WACE fee. If you are familiar with Nigeria, you will understand that WAEC is the first big exam kids get exposed to. It’s detrimental to whether they are eligible to attend university or polytechnic. I designed this program through New Spring Consult using a holistic approach, not taking care of the fee but ensuring that any form of social determinants of education is taken care of at this time.
This project is very special to me because when you are home, you take a lot of things for granted; as a young girl, I feel like most of my needs were met. I attended private institutions from primary to university level. But coming to America, being an international student exposed me to another form of the world; for the first time, I felt vulnerable and had to survive on my own. I just did those jobs to survive, getting the scholarship, the loans, grants, and people coming through for me when I felt like the lowest time of my life. It was imperative to pay it forward. This is America, and it will take a while for people to get to that level of stability. We can look back now, and thank God we don’t look like what we have been through.
Many people will constantly ask me what we do at the New Spring Consult. One of our services is designing social intervention programs for people, institutions, and the government. For example, I designed this project based on my journey and story. I want to listen to your story and assist you with creating a holistic program that can help you pay it forward.
Government officials, you have the power, authority, and influence; what social issues are you looking to tackle? We can revamp old programs and design new ones. You made those promises to the people, and I want to help you create those interventions and work through implementing your project regarding social service and the people.
The topic I chose for the selected student to write about was bullying; it’s interesting to see that most kids experience the highest form of bullying in their homes.
