Over the years, I’ve worn many hats: advocate, lobbyist, activist, community organizer, case manager, program manager, clinical manager, social worker, project manager, once in a while content creator on Lola’s voice, and now, therapist. At the heart of all these roles is one constant thing : my genuine passion for serving and caring for people.
As a therapist, I’ve worked acrossed Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Baltimore. Although I had spent over three years working in Baltimore before becoming a therapist, stepping into this role offered me a deeper perspective on the challenges faced by the community.
One observation stood out I began seeing many male and few female clients in their late 20s, mid 30s, and mid40s.
A common thread among many of them was that they had spent their formative years incarcerated.
The years meant for schooling, vocational training, or starting their careers were lost. Now, the focus is on helping them reintegrate into society.
This led me to a crucial question: Who is looking out for the young boys and girls in these communities?
• Who is providing them with the resources they need?
• Who is teaching them how to stay out of trouble and regulate their emotions?
• Who is encouraging a growth mindset and empowering them to build a brighter future?
These reflections inspired my first workshop “Beyond the Block: Building a Future Outside the System.” I am incredibly excited about this initiative and deeply grateful for the support I’ve received so far. The countdown has begun, and I can’t wait to see the impact we will make together.
Thank you for joining me on this journey!
